2007

Military Through the Ages

Please mark you calendar for next year on May 19, 2007 (Armed Forces Day), as we will again have military vehicles and military re-enactors from various periods to help honor our American veterans.

I spent a career of over 35 years in law enforcement, which included graduation in 1982 from the FBI National Academy at Quantico Marine Corps Base in Virginia. Those of you who have spent time at Quantico will know of what I speak when I say I successfully completed the "Yellow Brick Road." After retirement in April of 2002, I decided to seek a new direction and new challenges, and moved back to some of my family roots in the Troy, Alabama area. I've been an avid military memorabilia collector for over 25 years, as well as a living history re-enactor, and opened  the Conecuh River Depot in October of 2003.

Respect for our country's combat veterans, and the sacrifices they made for their country, led to the creation of this unique museum to honor their service. The museum covers World War I through Operation Iraqi Freedom, and is made up primarily of my personal collection of military memorabilia. I am appreciative of anyone who would like to donate or place memorabilia on loan to the museum. The Depot is primarily a museum, but I have a gift shop to help pay the rent. There is no admission charge for the Conecuh River Depot museum.

The gift shop contains living history supplies for re-enactors, known as sutler items, military patches and memorabilia, collectibles, military history books, flags, and Southern heritage items, such as T-shirts, caps, flags, etc. I also carry historical and educational toys for children.

If you’re looking for a particular item, please let me know. If I don’t have it, I'll do my best to locate it for you.

Please visit the Pioneer Museum of Alabama while you're here. My extensive collection of items from the War Between the States, and Spanish-American War, is on display there, along with approximately 20,000 other items of historical interest.

Thank you for your interest in my museum, and for your support of all veterans,

Bob McLendon
