My M151A2 in front of the museum during “Military Through the Ages” program in 2007

After going through basic training at Ft. Jackson, SC in 1962, I subsequently spent time  at Third Army HQ at Ft. McPherson, GA, Ft. Bragg, NC, and Ft. Benning, GA.  I volunteered for a government-sponsored trip to Southeast Asia,
but somebody higher than me decided I wasn’t needed there.   In 1966,  I entered into a 36 year career in law enforcement in Florida, serving in a wide variety of assignments, including all levels of supervision in patrol; criminal investigations; crime scene investigation; criminal intelligence & crime analysis; narcotics & organized crime, etc. I also served in various special units, including as supervisor of the Negotiations Response Team. I often had the opportunity to interact with the FBI, BATF, DEA, Secret Service, and other Federal agencies as well as the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. I was fortunate to have the opportunity in 1982 to attend the  FBI National Academy at
Quantico Marine Corps Base, VA. Those of you familiar with Quantico know of what
I speak when I say I completed the Yellow Brick Road. After retirement in 2002,
I moved back to some of my family roots near Troy, Alabama, and opened
the Conecuh River Depot Military Museum in 2003.

This is a private museum comprised of my extensive personal collection of military memorabilia assembled over a period of more than 30 years. The nucleus for my World War II collection came from my father, who served as a
combat liaisson officer in HQ III Corps, Third Army, in the European Theater.
Other items have been obtained from veterans, their families, estate sales,  reputable dealers,
and various other sources.
Besides U. S. Military items, the museum contains German items from World War II, Chinese Communist items from the Korean War, numerous NVA and Viet Cong items from the Vietnam War, and Iraqi items from
Desert Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom.
This museum is intended to be a memorial to the American fighting men and women,
who have insured the freedoms we all enjoy.
.
It is hoped you will come and view the museum, and think of the sacrifices
that at all veterans have made for us.

There is no charge for the Conecuh River Depot Military Museum.

We had a great trip to Vietnam in May of 2012. We spent 4 nights in Saigon, two in DaNang, and a couple in Hue. We made many side trips to villages, and many sites of interest. We even went in the VC tunnels in Cu Chi. The highlights were interacting with the children at a school in a small village south of DaNang, visiting a Catholic orphanage in DaNang, a Catholic convent in Hue, The Citadel in Hue, and the overall friendliness of the Vietnamese people towards us. Saigon now has 10 million people, but had the feeling of a much smaller city. I believe nine million must ride motor scooters. We had absolutely no negative experiences while there. Also, I picked up some items for the museum at the “mother lode” of war memorabilia in Saigon, thanks to a young Vietnamese who
was the son of a South Vietnamese soldier who took two of us there.

Return to Vietnam II has been postponed until 2015. I’ll post information when available. Please check back.

My large collection of memorabilia from the War Between the States is on display next door at the Pioneer Museum of Alabama. I encourage everyone to tour the Pioneer Museum of Alabama. Besides over 30 acres containing many 1800s buildings, there are over 18,000 items on display in the main building.  Come on by and visit.

Our Gift to the Fallen
by Charlie Gragg
Penryn, California

For each soldier that has fallen so that many may stand
We honor their spirit as they pass to God’s hand.
For without their sacrifice we would live forever in fear.
We pray for their loved ones and provide a salute and a tear.
God help us heal the wounds of hate and the misery of war.
That is our gift to our fallen heroes that are amongst us no more

You never know who might show up at

Researchers remain learning even more about the overall impact of obesity on the start of puberty and results on the liver, pancreas and additional endocrine glands, Chappell said. While humans show organic variants in pubertal progression, the signals that control this timing are unclear. However in general, puberty is apparently starting earlier in girls. It is being accelerated. This may have several effects, researchers have discovered. One theory is an impact on kisspeptin, a characterized neurohormone necessary for reproduction recently. Calcium fights prostate cancer Calcium.

Researchers in Flinders University’s Section of Medical Biochemistry are investigating a pharmacological approach that will use calcium ions within cancerous cells in the prostate to destroy those cells. There are a series of what we call calcium channels in the top of prostate cancer cells, which regulate the level of calcium within the cells efficiently, Professor Greg Barritt stated. His research team is working to develop a process that will overactivate the channels, thus producing levels of calcium that are toxic to the malignancy cells. Professor Barritt stated that in an ageing population that increasingly survives additional diseases, prostate cancer is usually emerging as a major reason behind death for men. Continue reading

Ambrisentan cleared for use with phenprocoumon By Eleanor McDermid.

Previous research show that ambrisentan can be co-administered with warfarin with no need for warfarin dose-adjustment. This is because ambrisentan is metabolized primarily by glucuronidation, and just partly by cytochrome P450, so does not interfere with warfarin metabolism, explain business lead study author Natascha Sommer and co-workers. In a paper published in Pharmaceutical Analysis recently syrup form.

Chemical compound in coffee can help prevent damaging ramifications of obesity Researchers at the University of Georgia have discovered that a chemical compound commonly within coffee may help prevent some of the damaging ramifications of obesity. In a paper published in Pharmaceutical Analysis recently, scientists found that chlorogenic acid, or CGA, significantly reduced insulin accumulation and resistance of fat in the livers of mice who had been fed a high-fat diet. Previous studies show that coffee consumption may lower the chance for chronic diseases like Type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease, stated Yongjie Ma, a postdoctoral study associate in UGA's College of Pharmacy and lead author of the paper syrup form . Our study expands on this analysis by searching at the benefits associated with this type of compound, which is situated in great abundance in espresso, but also in additional fruit and veggies like apples, pears, blueberries and tomatoes. During the past twenty years, there has been a dramatic increase in obesity in the usa. More than one-third of U.S. Adults and 17 % of children are obese approximately, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the annual medical price of obesity is a lot more than $147 billion. From weight gain Aside, two common unwanted effects of obesity are increased insulin level of resistance and the accumulation of extra fat in the liver. Still left untreated, these disorders can result in diabetes and poor liver function. To test the therapeutic ramifications of CGA, researchers fed several mice a high-fat diet for 15 weeks while also injecting them with a CGA answer two times per week. Related StoriesScientists show how absence of microbiota has extraordinary effect against obesitySmall subtype of immune cells appears to prevent obesityNegative body image significantly increases obesity risk among adolescentsThey found that CGA was not only effective in preventing pounds gain, but it helped maintain normal blood sugar levels and healthful liver composition also. CGA is a robust antioxidant that reduces inflammation, said Ma, who functions in the laboratory of professor Dexi Liu in the section of pharmaceutical and biomedical sciences. A lot of evidence shows that obesity-related diseases are caused by chronic inflammation, so if we can control that, we are able to offset some of the unwanted effects of excessive pounds gain hopefully. However the authors are quick to indicate that CGA isn’t a cure-all. Proper diet and regular exercise are still the best solutions to reduce the risks connected with obesity. The mice in this scholarly study received a higher dose of CGA, much higher than what a individual would absorb through regular espresso consumption or a diet plan rich in fruit and veggies. However, the experts do believe that CGA may form the foundation of a treatment for individuals who need extra help. They intend to conduct more study to build up an improved CGA formulation designed for human usage. We're not really suggesting that folks start drinking a whole lot of coffee to protect themselves from an unhealthy lifestyle, said Ma, who’s also an associate of UGA's Obesity Initiative. But we do think that we could probably create a useful therapeutic using CGA that will assist those at risk for obesity-related disease as they make positive changes in lifestyle. . Continue reading

The reports of experts in peer-examined medical journals.

OHSU experts said their analysis demonstrated the ongoing issue with inaccurate and sometimes biased reporting in medical journals. But it also showed that the nationwide government website could be another viable resource for goal medical information. ‘There’s a general recognition that adverse occasions historically haven’t been reported consistently in the medical literature. And underreporting of the events is a major concern because it can distort how healthcare providers balance the benefits and harms of medications and various other medical interventions for his or her patients,’ stated Daniel Hartung, Pharm.D., M.P.H., associate professor in the Oregon State University/OHSU College of Pharmacy and lead writer of the scholarly study.
